Mandate/Mission Statement:
The CA&GS Environmental Stewardship Committee (CESC) is charged with the task of reviewing the College’s activities and policies regarding environmental stewardship in the National Weather Center, Sarkeys Energy Center, and other spaces for which it is responsible. The CESC additionally strives to promote awareness of environmental issues and makes recommendations to the College in such areas. To some extent, the Committee's purview extends to the University Research Campus, though in such cases, the CESC will work through the Office of the Vice President for Research. At times it may be appropriate for the Committee to make recommendations to the University for changes in policy and practice that impact the campus more generally.
Activities of the CESC include:
- Promoting awareness of environmental issues across the College
- Partnering with CART to promote the use of public transportation
- Working with the personnel of the Flying Cow Cafe and Bedrock Cafe to promote sustainable activities in food services.
- Developing and strengthening relationships with existing programs on campus, such as the OU Environmental Concerns Committee, the Interdisciplinary Perspectives on the Environment Program, the OUr Earth student organization, and so forth.
- Interacting with our partner institutions within the NWC and SEC regarding environmental issues.
